Slovakia’s is tightening travel restrictions for people coming from the Czech Republic over fears concerning the worsening coronavirus. Prime Minister Igor Matovic said he would be pushing for further reducing the number of exceptions allowed for entering Slovakia from its northern neighbor. Slovakia has seen a rapid rise in the number of cases recorded each day, but it hasn’t reached the levels now being seen in the Czech Republic. “The Czech Republic is much worse off than we are at the moment,” said Matovic. “The question on the table is whether to make things stricter with the Czech Republic. Personally, I think it’s necessary to make it stricter.” Slovakia put the Czech Republic on it list of risky countries on September 18, making it necessary for travelers from there to show a negative coronavirus test in order to avoid quarantine. Among the exceptions that have until now been allowed were truck and bus drivers, pilots, plane and train crews along others. On Wednesday, Slovakia recorded 1,037 new cases of Covid-19, while the daily increase in the Czech Republic now exceeds 5,000.
