Hungarian court bans Ryanair from using the word “Buzz” as it can be confused with Wizz Air

10 September 2020

The Metropolitan Court of Appeal upheld the order of the court of first instance in which Ryanair had been banned from using the name “Buzz”, as it can be confused with its major competitor – Wizz Air.
The once Hungarian based airline has already filed a lawsuit to legally ban using the Buzz brand on the Hungarian market. The case appeared when back in 2019 Ryanair handed over its local operations in Central Europe East to its subsidiary Ryanair Sun which was to operate under the Buzz brand. Wizz Air complained that the two names are confusing and damages it’s trademark.
