Plans are finally moving forward on building a direct train connection between Prague and Mlada Boleslav. The city has grown rapidly thanks to the strength of the Skoda Auto company but its public transportation access to the Czech capital is woefully inadequate. The new train line would allow trains to travel at speeds of up to 200 km/h with lines leading in both directions. It will use existing rails leading to Lysa nad Labem as well as the construction of a new line from that town to Mlada Boleslav. The goal of planners is to reduce the time it takes to travel between the two cities to less than 45 minutes. It’s hoped that construction on the CZK 32 billion project can begin by 2027. Sprava Zeleznic, which manages the country’s railway network is preparing project documentation.
