Kaufland tests system to let customers to scan goods as they shop

The grocery chain Kaufland is testing a system that allows customers to scan items they are buying with their own phone. Once they’re done shopping, they proceed to express checkout lines to pay for their goods without having to unpack all their shopping. The system is only available in two stores at the moment but the company expects to roll it out in 28 stores by October. “K-Scan has a lot of advantages,” said Renata Maierl, Kaufland’s spokeswoman. “It saves customers time, they can always see the price of everything they’ve but and they don’t have to take items out of their basked to put it on the conveyor belt any more. As a bonus, their K-Card is automatically applied so they get a discount.” The application can also be used to make shopping lists, recipes and to store coupons.
