Koruna continues to strengthen against dollar and euro

13 August 2020

The Czech koruna continues to gain against the euro and the United State dollar. The currency is benefiting from a general strengthening of the euro as well as improved faith in smaller, developing economies. The upwards movement in value is being accompanied by growth on the Prague stock exchange, where most of the big shares have enjoyed gains. Several analysts expect the Czech currency to experience some weakness during September but that it will go below CZK 26 per euro within a year. In February, the currency hit its high point, strengthening to CZK 24.84 but this collapsed during the height of the pandemic. By May, it was trading for nearly CZK 28 per euro and for more than CZK 26 per dollar. This turned around once the restrictive measures abated.
