Construction of D7 continues along Louny bypass

10 August 2020

Eurovia and the firm Kerkul have begun construction of a 6 km portion of the D7 motorway with work expected to cost CZK 773 million. The job involves widening the existing bypass of the town of Louny, which lies northwest of Prague, two-thirds of the way to Chomutov. Such is the concern over the potential return of the coronavirus that work got underway without any of the traditional ceremony. The section now under construction is one of seven planned that will connect the Czech capital to the town of Chomutov, which lies at the base of a range of mountains that line the German border. In order to allow cars to continue using the bypass, the new portion of the road will be built next to it first. Cars will then be directed onto the new half of the the motorway, while the existing bypass road is reconstructed.
