Skoda Auto experienced a 31.3 percent decline in sales over the first half of the year to 426,700 vehicles. By May, the decline had hit 46 percent off the pace from 2019, but the renewal of sales in June reduced that figure by 16 percent. As a group, Volkswagen’s results were similar, as it sold 27.4 percent fewer vehicles between January and June than it did for the same time period last year. These types of result are being repeated around Europe, including Daimler which announced losses of €1.68 billion for the first half of the year and threatened to lay off 20,000 employees. In all, the company employs around 300,000 people.
