The Netherlands launched its first state auction for 5G frequencies on June 29, an initiative that’s expected to raise €900m at the very least. The country’s telecom regulator is allowing telecom operators to compete for licences in the 700, 1,400 and 2,100 MHz bands.
The local provider KPN will be taking part in the auction, but it will have to compete against Vodafone and T-Mobile. According to the rules of the auction, the process must be completed by August 1 at the latest. It’s also been stipulated that none of the operators will be allowed to acquire more than 40 percent of any frequency band.
