HGK lobbies to letting summer construction continue this year

12 June 2020

The Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK) has asked the Ministry of Construction to send a recommendation to municipalities to lift the ban on construction works in the summer. During the pandemic, HGK managed to prevent construction sites from closing and to re-open shops for construction materials and equipment quickly, preserving activity and jobs in the industry.

Mirjana Cagalj, vice president of the HGK said that interrupting earthworks and construction over the summer would make recovery and the realization of the scheduled works more difficult. This would inevitably lead to additional financial damage and ultimately layoffs. Under the country’s construction act, cities and municipalities can make decisions on banning works during the summer between June 15 and September 15.
