The number of new car registrations in Austria fell by one-third during May compared to the fifth month of last year. Just 20,211 new cars were purchased, while the total number of sales since January 1 fell 39.9 percent to 86,111. On the other hand, there was an increase in the number of electric drive and hybrid car sales. The number of new registrations of electric cars rose by 5.2 percent, while the number of diesel hybrids sold rose by 40.2.
Even more dramatic was the number of petrol hybrids sold, as it rose 83.8 percent. That being said, the total proportion of cars with electric or hybrid drives is still exceedingly small as electric cars make up just 3.6 percent of all vehicles in Austria.
