Prague airport profits for 2019 fall CZK 400m but expansion still planned

10 June 2020

Letiště Praha, the company that runs the Prague airport, made a pre-tax profit of CZK 3bn for 2019, which was CZK 400m off the pace from 2018. It achieved the result while handling a record number of passengers over the course of the year: 17.8 million. But the company didn’t provide a breakdown of its revenues, so it’s not known how much it took in for parking or the renting of retail space in the airport. Since the the total number of passengers was expected to rise further this year, the airport has around 200 projects planned aimed at expanding its capacity, the biggest of which is the reconstruction of its baggage handling system is currently underway. In all, CZK 16bn worth of investments aimed at increasing the airport’s capacity are planned by 2028, including the construction of a parallel runway. This year’s collapse in air traffic and the time it will take for passengers to return to the skies will give the airport breathing space to allow its capacity to catch up with the growth of its clientele.
