The Czech government is a step closer to passing a law that shorten the time it takes to build strategic infrastructure projects like roads and railways. One of its key measures is that it would allow the state to begin buying land needed for such investments at the beginning of the planning process, rather than having to wait until the moment it applies for a construction permit. Project management experts believe this could speed the completion of construction on new infrastructure by as much as four years. Idnes.cz writes that the last section of the D1 motorway between Přerov and Říkovice should have been complete 11 years ago and that the D4 motorway between Prague and Strakonice is being held up by land-related issues. Two government ministries have approved the current form of the bill, but the third the Ministry of Regional Development, has not approved it yet.
