3 June 2020

The severity of the impact of the coronavirus on Austria’s economy is becoming clear through its skyrocketing unemployment rate. The number of unemployed people reached 517,122 in May, a jump of 174,000 compared to May 2019. The reopening of the economy has led to a reduction in the number of unemployed, which peaked in April at 588,234, but at 11.5 percent, the situation is still serious.
