The city of Berlin is the latest German metropolis to announce a further lifting of pandemic restrictions. As of June 2, open-air events such as concerts or films will again be permitted for up to 200 people, while that number can increase to 500 as of June 16. If all goes well, the limit will hit 999 people by the end of the month and the regulations will apply to sports events as well. Indoor events are also being given the green light, though the approach in this case is less ambitious. Groups of 150 people can gather as of June 2, but this will increase to just 200 as of June 30, and while fitness centers can open next week as well, people must stay at least 3 meters apart from each other. Heavy drinkers will appreciate the extension of bar opening hours to 6 a.m. and will be able to remain seated until 11 p.m., beyond the usual last call from 10 pm. However, the city’s night life economy will continue to suffer, as clubs will continue to be banned from opening. Finally, the number of guests allowed at weddings and funerals has been increased to 50.
