The Hungarian government will ease Covid-19 restrictions on movement starting next week. The easing will apply to all areas of the country with the exception of Budapest, said Gergely Gulyas, the head of the Prime Ministerʼs Office. The country had started relaxing lockdown measures on May 4, with the opening of more non-essential business outside of the capital and Pest County — where Covid cases and deaths are the highest — and ending restrictions on business hours. From Monday, restaurants will be allowed to serve diners inside. Commercial accommodations will also be allowed to reopen as well as parks and children’s playgrounds. Students will likely be returning to schools at the beginning of next month. Weddings outside of the capital will also be allowed to take place starting in June, according to government officials. Gulyas indicated that the lockdown in Budapest might soon be eased, too. The government is expected to announce its decision on the matter today or Saturday.
