Hotels in Spain reopening long before arrival of foreign tourists

15 May 2020

Pressure is mounting on the Spanish government to allow hotels to reopen. This is of little surprise, considering that tourism is the third largest contributor to the Spanish economy. But it’s unclear if it makes good business sense, given the fact that no one will be able to travel between the provinces until July. Also, foreign tourists are still not expected until the borders are reopened and until the 14-day quarantine is lifted.

In the meantime, the government has been coming up with guidelines on health and safety for the tourism industry to ensure health security. For hotels, this means detail cleaning and disinfecting several times a day and requiring staff to wear protective clothing. Many hotels are placing screens between tables in their dining rooms.
