The Fairmont hotel chain which took over the InterContinental hotel in downtown Prague is hoping that its reconstruction project can proceed more quickly than anticipated because of the coronavirus crisis. The building’s owner R2G is hoping to complete project documentation within a couple of months, writes the daily E15 and that construction work can begin this fall. R2G’s investment director Jakub Dyba says the speed of work will depend in part on the return of wealthy tourists to Prague. “According to our analysis, this could take several years, so this could contribute to a speeding up of the project,” he said. The investor said it will continue public discussions of its plans to transform the square in front of the hotel so that it memorializes the history of Czechoslovak cinematography. The square is named after the Czech director Miloš Forman.
