The website Protocol.com has noticed that Apple has been consistently hiring cloud computing experts recently, leading to rumors that the company may finally be making a long awaited investment into the sector. It’s not just the number of people Apple has picked up, according to Protocol, but also their quality. While Apple has an enormous web presence, it’s never been treated as a serious player in the cloud infrastructure sector, in large part because it lacks a unified approach that pits one division against the other. But in 2018, Apple revealed that it would be investing $10bn in data center construction over the next five years to make it less dependent on other providers such as AWS and Google. The company now appears to be making software investments as its existing solutions are no longer fit for needed future developments.
