Serbia cancels state of emergency

7 May 2020

Members of the Serbian Parliament voted yesterday to end the country’s state of emergency as proposed by the government. It cancels the imposition of stricter controls that have been in place since March 15 and removes the basis for curfews, though not all emergency measures have been rescinded. Gloves and masks will be mandatory for those using public transport as well as in restaurants and cafes. People are supposed to continue to maintain physical distance between themselves and the ban on public gatherings remains in place.

Schools will not reconvene as remote teaching will continue to be practiced, while cinemas and theaters remain closed. People over the age of 65 are allowed to move about outside but are recommended to stay home when possible. Weddings, baptisms and other family celebrations will be possible once again from June 15.
