Dutch cafes can’t open terraces until June 1

6 May 2020

The Dutch Government is considering allowing cafes and restaurants to reopen their terraces from June 1, while hairdressers could open already next week. Next Tuesday, the government will meet to discuss the gradual lifting of the lock down.

One of the topics will be requiring all passengers on public transport to wear facial coverings. For now, trains, buses and subways are only supposed to be used for essential trips. Given the difficulty of constantly maintaining 1.5 meters between people while travelling, the masks may be prescribed in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Events have been banned until September but elementary schools will open May 11.
