A €400,000 investment in the construction of an array of solar energy panels has been installed on the roof of MIK Meat Industry’s building in the Sveti Nikola region of northern Macedonia. The 610-kilowatt plant contains 2,160 solar panels.
The company took the step of installing the panels to improve its energy efficiency and to reduce its carbon footprint, which it needed in order to secure an export number for the European Union. Such steps are now being used as a tool to force companies in countries outside trading block to reduce their carbon emissions. The owner of MIK, Vlatko Georgievski, says that similar investments will be necessary if the North Macedonian economy wants to take the European path.
