Retail sales down 9% in March

Retail sales in Poland were down 9 percent y-o-y in March, according to data published by the Central Statistical Office (GUS). Retail sales decreased by 3.3 percent compared to February’s volume. March results were significantly impacted by the measures introduced by the Polish government to fight the coronavirus pandemic, including store closures. Motor vehicles and motorcycles reported a 30.9-percent drop in sales, while clothing retailers reported their sales volumes were down by 49.6 percent, according to GUS. Between January and March, retail sales were up 0.7 percent y-o-y.
