A total of 11,000 people have already been fired in Serbia thanks to the impact of the novel coronavirus, a figure that economists predict will continue to grow. Part-time employees have been the first to be laid off along with seasonal workers and those employed by companies through agencies. The strategy of most companies is to retain its most skilled workers through any means possible. The French-owned Hutchinson factory, which produces automobile parts in Ruma has announced its decision to 1,136 workers on collective leave as of April 21 and will fire an additional 80 part-time workers. Workers in the tourism sector and hospitality sectors have been hit particularly hard and it’s expected to take months or years for them to recover.
