The president of Inditex, Pablo Isla, has announced that the company will continue to pay all of its staff in Spain including store employees. The move means that the company’s 25,000 employees in the country will receive their full salaries for April. Inditex had to close the 1,500 stores it operates under various rand names when the state of emergency was declared. The situation cause sales to fall 24 percent during the first half of March even though the company’s online channels are still operational. Inditex did not rule out making use of applying for state support offered for store personnel in the future, but it said this would depend on how the crisis continues to force stores to remain closed.
