Alza.cz hopes to sell coronavirus tests online

16 March 2020

The Czech on-line retailer Alza.cz has announced that it is “actively looking” for a way to allow its customers to test themselves for the coronavirus at home. But it’s provided no timeline as to when or even if such tests are likely to be available. Only those who are suspected of carrying the virus are being tested at the moment by medical services, but those who are willing to pay around CZK 3,000 can take the test on their own initiative. Alza.cz was still serving serving clients at its pick-up points over the weekend as the government ban on all retail did not extend to stores selling electronic goods. New tougher measures taken Sunday night by the government may reignite chronic dispute with the online retailer, which is regularly fined by retail inspectors for leaving their pick-up points open during state holiday. Alza.cz reports that sales by its drugstore and pet shop divisions are up 200 percent compared to a year ago and currently make up 68 percent of all turnover. The most sold items are for infant care, for pets and cleaning products.
