Although the number of cases of coronavirus in the Czech Republic has now risen to 8, the panic buying of non-perishable goods appears to have ended. The Czech News Agency writes that the wave of buying large quantities of pasta, beans, canned goods and bottled water has passed with producers and stores insisting there’s no significant pressure on supply levels. “I can confirm that the situation is gradually returning to normal levels and that the panic has been calmed,” announced the president of the Union of Shops and Tourism Tomáš Prouza. Kaufland’s spokeswoman Renata Maierl said there was no longer a run on her store’s supplies of rice and pasta. “All of our stores are being supplied regularly from our central warehouse,” she said. “At the moment we’re not seeing any fluctuations.” The spokeswoman of Billa said that Czech households now appear to have stocked up what they see as acceptable levels of supplies.
