Slovakia’s Ministry of Environment has proposed sweeping measures to help tackle climate change, including program to support the installation of new furnaces, to replace diesel engine vehicles and to push cars out of the center of cities. The Slovak daily Pravda writes that there’s even a proposal to support the purchasing of bikes by covering 50 percent of the cost up to a maximum of €1,000. This would include electric bikes. Motorists who handed over their old diesel cars and bought new ones would receive up to €2,200. The ministry has submitted its proposals for discussion at the cabinet level, which also includes support for creating car-free zones in cities, for public transport and for extra parking for ‘cleaner’ vehicles.
