Škoda Auto plans massive solar power initiative for factory rooftops

31 January 2020

Škoda Auto will order the installation of hundreds of millions of crowns worth of solar panels on the roofs of its factories. The supplier, ČEZ Esco, says the total installed power would be roughly 40 megawatts. After completing a basic feasibility study, the company produced a pilot project at the Škoda factory in Kosmonosy which is currently producing 40 megawatts. But Hospodřské noviny reports that it’s still unclear if it will be possible to place the collectors on all of the roofs of the company. Half of the energy Škoda Auto currently runs on is produced by renewable sources, but it intends to be carbon neutral when it comes to energy use by the second half of this decade. At the moment, Škoda is buying ‘green’ energy while producing its own using biomass-fueled heating plants.
