Prague’s city hall wants to set a single fee hotels have to pay for guests at CZK 21 per day. While that’s the same amount they currently pay through a combination of separate fees, the amount could rise to CZK 50 per day beginning in 2021. The fee would apply to operators of online platforms like Airbnb that lease apartments out on a short-term basis, according to the Czech News Agency. Individual districts would collect 75 percent of the fees, with the City of Prague collecting the remainder. There’s growing outrage over the impact of Airbnb on the center of the city, as noisy tourists are replacing long-time residents in apartment buildings and in the streets. The city is looking at a variety of ways to begin regulating the online platforms, which it’s thought now control a fifth of all apartments in the center.
