Volkswagen is now considering building a new factory in either Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia or Romania after walking back plans to develop a production base in Turkey. The German car manufacturer scrapped its decision to open a factory in Turkey following the Turkish military’s recent operation in Syria. The factory was to go up near Izmir with an estimated value of €1.3bn. The factory in Turkey had been slated to start production on Passat and Skoda Superb models by 2022. The new Volkswagen factory will produce 300,000 vehicles a year and employ 4,000 people.
