CTP to BREEAM certify entire portfolio

9 October 2019

The industrial developer CTP Invest and BRE will collaborate to implement BREEAM In-Use International across its entire portfolio of industrial buildings in a program expected to take until 2020. CTP, whose portfolio spans around 300 buildings, says it’s a demonstration of its commitment to sustainable development. BRE (the organization in charge of the certification regime) and CTP Invest will issue a joint Request for Proposals in a tender to the BREEAM Assessor network. Stefan de Goeij, Head of Property Management, who is driving the initiative at CTP Invest said, “Because we are long-term owners and managers of the buildings we construct, we use the BREEAM In-Use scheme because we need to continually monitor the long-term performance of a building—not only the construction phase, but also the operational phase after construction. It also requires a long-term investment horizon, as we will need to recertify a building every three years.”

James Fisher, Head of Real Assets for BREEAM at BRE, said “The aim is to keep driving innovation in the delivery of BREEAM as the value case becomes more and more clear. We need mass action in the commercial real estate market that not only focuses on the super high-performing assets but also in the more mainstream buildings. It is testament to CTP’s commitment to build a better world, that we are now able to drive forward on this project with them.”
