A total of 700,000 foreigners now work in the Czech Republic and its their presence that’s keeping many companies afloat at the moment. Czech employers are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain current production levels with unemployment nearly non-existent in many regions. Most of the foreigners come from other EU nations, along with workers from Ukraine. In 2004, when the country entered the EU, just 4 percent of the workforce was made up of foreigners. The figure has since jumped to 13.2 percent. The biggest number of foreigners come from Slovakia (191,000) followed by 152,000 Ukrainians. More than 45,000 Poles also work in the Czech Republic along with 43,000 Romanians. The only other nation with more than 30,000 workers in the Czech Republic is Bulgaria, with 34,000.
