The government coalition that controls the Czech parliament refused to cancel the tax on acquiring real estate, despite complaints that it’s helped drive up the price of housing, primarily in Prague. Echo24 reports that the capital city could use its unique position in the legal system to resubmit the bill to parliament. Deputy Jiří Pospšil said it was members of the parties ANO, the Social Democrats and the Communists that refused to cancel the tax. “This tax is amoral, it taxes money that’s already been taxed and it makes properties hundreds of thousands of crowns more expensive. I consider the position of the government with support of the Communist to be mistaken. Especially in Prague, property prices are so high today that they’re unaffordable for normal people.” He said he would not give up on his fight for less expensive housing.
