The total inflow of foreign direct investment into Montenegro between January and July reached €448.2m, according to preliminary data of the Central Bank of Montenegro. Domestic investors invested €206.7m abroad meaning that the net inflow of FDI for these seven months was €241.5m, an increase of 23 percent compared with the same period in 2018. The majority of investments went into intercompany debt (€173m).
The National Bank reports that total investments reached €332.5m from a total of 40 countries, with the largest amount coming from Hungary (€51.7m). Three Hungarian companies invested a total of €45m in banks and companies. Second on the list was Russia with investments of €41m. Russian citizens invested in properties worth €22.73m. The third biggest investor was Bosnia and Herzegovina (€31.2m) of which €28.5m went into Montenegrin companies (€1.3m was placed in real estate).
