Czech Finance Ministry increases 2020 infrastructure spend

9 August 2019

The Czech Ministry of Transportation has plans to invest CZK 70bn into its transportation network, including the construction and maintenance of roads and railways. Idnes.cz reports that number emerged from negotiations with the country’s finance minister. Further funds from the European Union will be added to that total, though this isn’t expected to exceed CZK 25bn. It’s believed that the finance ministry had originally counted on chipping in just CZK 65bn for such investments. “The minister has realized that in times of a slowing economy, it’s not possible to cut off investments in transportation infrastructure, these investments can’t be slashed,” said Transportation Minister Vladimér Kremlík on Czech Television.
