The Slovak Ministry of Transport has pledged to complete a series of improvements to the D1 motorway between Bratislava and Trnava by 2028. This includes expanding the section between the capital and Senec to eight lanes (including an emergency lane on each side) and adding full emergency lanes to the section after Senec. At the moment, writes the daily Pravda, motorists leaving Bratislava are only allowed to drive 110 km/hr and if they have a mechanical breakdown while driving, the situation can quickly become dangerous. Critics claim the road’s current parameters don’t warrant its inclusion in portion of roads drivers have to pay to use. The ministry claims the new exit at Triblavina will be completed by 2020, though Pravda writes that it should have opened in 2017.
