CPI Hungary has joined the Accesss4You initiative, which calls upon building owners to ensure their buildings can be used comfortably and safely by people with special needs (SPI). The program involves letting their premises be audited from the viewpoint of SPI, listening to proposed improvements and receiving a European certification for qualifying buildings. Specifically, the inspectors take into account building issues that are of concern to wheelchair users, people with physical disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women and people with baby carriages, deaf and hard-of-hearing persons, blind and partially-sighted persons and people living with cognitive impairment as people with special needs.
“Today, ensuring freedom of movement for people with disabilities when they are using our buildings is not only a matter of courtesy but it is our obligation, as almost 15 per cent of the Hungarian population has some kind of special need. That means that we have to pay special attention to the aspects of accessibility, and we must design and operate buildings that meet the criteria of accessibility. In the light of this, we are going to upgrade our existing buildings in line with the professional recommendations regarding accessibility,” said Mátyás Gereben, manager of CPI Hungary.
CPI Hungary will include most of its real estate in the certification process, comprising of approximately 295 thousand square meters of office and commercial portfolio.
