Uber can now return to the streets of Bratislava, following the introduction of a new law on road transportation that regulates taxi services. Under the new law, those providing taxi services will no longer have to pass a local knowledge test and a taxi meter doesn’t have to be installed in the vehicle, as long as the price is agreed upon at the beginning of a ride. In crafting the law, the Slovak Ministry of Transportation made it possible for such services to be arranged through on-line platforms because, as it said in a statement “electronic services are the future.” However, even Uber drivers will have to have a taxi sign on their roof. Uber switched off its application in Slovakia in March 2018 after a court found it was operating illegally in the country.
