The billion crown reconstruction of the Negrelli viaduct has been underway since July 2017, but structural experts have determined that the structure is in such poor condition that it’s only halfway done. It was originally assumed that 12 of the arches that support the bridge would have to be rebuilt, but that number has risen to 18. The work is being carried out by a consortium between Hochtief CZ, Strabag and Avers. At 1.1 km, the 160 year old structure is the longest train bridge in the country. It’s a crucial part of the planned rail connection between the center of Prague and the airport. The city is considering plans to use the space beneath the arches as cafes or other purposes.
