EnerSys closing Bulgarian battery plant

13 March 2019

EnerSys is closing its plant in Bulgaria. The US company manufactures batteries for diesel submarines at its factory in Targovishte. However, the board of directors recently voted to shutter the site after determining that demand for diesel submersible batteries was not sustainable given the number of competitors on the market. EnerSys is planning to sell the plant, which it bought in 2007. In 2014, the company cut 420 employees from a staff of 560.
