Volkswagen plans to reduce the number of employees it has on its books in Slovakia for the first time since 2009, according Echo.cz. Citing an article in Reuters, it writes that the company is looking to improve efficiency through the move. VW has 14,000 employees in Slovakia. Around 500 people it “borrowed” from Audi’s Hungarian plant in 2016 will be returned, while people with time-limited contracts will not receive new deals. The German automobile manufacturer will also reduce the number of employees it takes from employment agencies. VW claims that improved equipment on the production lines will allow it to reduce the number of shifts it takes to turn out the same number of cars.
