There’s a growing belief that Volkswagen will build a new production plant for its Škoda line of automobiles somewhere in Eastern Europe, with Bulgaria and Turkey reportedly both being considered. The German daily Handelsblatt writes that what’s clear is that it won’t be built in the Czech Republic, where the company is unable to find enough labor to keep up with demand for its cars. Škoda Auto produced 1 million cars in 2014, but the annual figure has since grown to 1.23 million annually, with substantial further expansion expected in the future. The company’s boss Bernhard Maier predicts it will need to find somewhere to build another 400,000 cars per year just to meet projected demand for Škoda vehicles sold in Europe.
