The Lithuanian Energy Ministry will invest €1.8m to renovate energy-inefficient public buildings. The project will upgrade a number of buildings, including the Kaunas Public Library, the Lithuanian Center for Addictive Diseases and the Panevėžys Correction House, to at least a C energy rating. The planned renovation on more than 20,000 sqm of space is expected to reduce energy costs by more than 30 percent. By 2020, the Lithuanian government plans to renovate public buildings totaling more than 365,000 sqm. It is expected that these renovations will yield a yearly saving of €3m in energy costs and aid in meeting EU energy-efficiency standards.
