Technicians are unable to determine just how bad things are with the bridge over Vltavska metro station because someone lost the original documentation for the structure. According to the honorary chairman of the chamber of architects and engineers Václav Mach, the city’s roads maintenance company (TSK) has just one drawing of the bridge that doesn’t reflect its current form. Without the proper documentation, he says, it’s impossible to know exactly how much the structure has deteriorated from its original form. Mach speculated that this lack of plans may be behind TSK’s recommendation that the whole thing be torn down and rebuilt. He also warned that documentation is missing for numerous bridges around Prague. The bridge’s closure means traffic heading from the center towards Vystaviště has been diverted, but tram service to the Vltavska station should be resumed today.
