The number of live births was down 2.4 percent y-o-y in the first six months of the year, according to Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH). The death rate also fell by 3.8 percent in H1. As a result, the natural decrease was 6.3 percent less than in the first half of 2017. In June 2018 alone, some 7,511 children were born, 0.1 percent more than in June 2017, while the number of deaths was 9,389, a decrease of 1.8 percent y-o-y. As a result, the natural decrease was 1,878 in June, as opposed to 2,054 the previous year, a decline of 8.6 percent, according to KSH.
