Slovaks lose out to Serbs on Linglong Tire factory

27 August 2018

The Slovak daily Hospodarske noviny reports that Slovakia has lost out on its second major automobile sector investment, having lost out to the Hungarian town of Debrecin for BMW’s new factory. This time, the daily writes, the Chinese tire manufacturer Linglong Tire has decided to build its newest factory in Serbia. “We chose Serbia because of its low costs on labor and energy,” the company wrote in a statement. Construction is expected to begin on the factory in April in the Zrenjanin Free Trade Zone. It will have a capacity of 13.5 million tires annually. Slovak officials had hoped the company would choose the town of Košice.
