Negrelli viaduct reconstruction delayed

24 August 2018

Reconstruction of the historic Negrelli viaduct in Prague is likely to drag on until April 2020 because 14 arches will need to be rebuilt. The Railway Network Authority (SŽDC), which is carrying out the CZK 1.4bn investment, said the bridge was in worse condition than had been thought, making it impossible to complete the work by the fall of 2019. Built in 1850, the Negrelli viaduct is a key piece of railway infrastructure for trains coming from the west and north of Prague and heading to the Masaryk station or destinations east of the city center. The reconstruction is intended to allow 14 trains to cross the 1,100 m structure at 60 km/hr in both directions.
