The Czech Chamber of Commerce is beginning to accept request for workers from Serbia. The shift means that the government has bowed to pressures from the private sphere who had been pushing for the process of accepting workers from abroad to be sped up. Workers from Ukraine have already been accepted in the Czech Republic for two years resulting in the arrival of 13,000 employees. It’s estimated that up to 2,000 Serbs could begin arriving in the Czech Republic each year. Other workers are arriving from Spain and from Greece, and the Chamber of Commerce claims that 7,000 Germans work in the Czech Republic. Speaking about the newly accepted Serbs, “It’s a high quality work force in the automotive sector,” said the Chamber of Commerce’s president Vladimír Dlouhý on Czech Television’s news program. “The chamger is planning to work directly in Serbia, which is easier for us than Ukraine,” he said.
