200 km/hr train from Bratislava now just years away

5 June 2018

The Kazakh firm Integra Construction is reportedly the front-runner in a tender by the Slovak Railway Company (ZSR) to modernize the main line between Bratislava and Malacky. Integra offered to complete the work within three years for €212.5m, far below the estimated price of €305m. The 24 kilometer stretch of rail is supposed to be modernized to enable trains to run at speeds of up to 200 km/hr, 60 km/hr faster than at the moment. The next section of track to be updated runs 42 km from Malacky to Kuty and will be followed by the 7 km section that leads to the Czech border. Once completed, the trip to Brno will be 10 minutes quicker than it is currently. Integra is currently working on repairs to the D1 motorway between Prague and Brno, but this would be its first job in Slovakia.
