Zayo buys data center in Virginia

Zayo Group Holdings Inc. purchased a 62,000 sq ft data center in McLean, Virginia. The price of the deal was not disclosed. Zayo is planning to upgrade the critical power at the site to 3 MW and to make other enhancements. The new facility will tether directly to Zayo’s data center in Ashburn, and to Zayo’s network point of presence on M Street in Washington. The purchase marks the companies second purchase in the northern Virginia market.

“Northern Virginia is one of the most important data center markets in the world, with a diverse base of service providers, enterprises and government agencies all contributing to strong demand,” said TJ Karklins, Zayo’s senior vice president. “The acquisition, which includes tenants, data center systems, and long-term leases, was driven by strong demand in the Washington area for low-latency colocation, interconnection and access to fiber infrastructure.”
